Senator John Snow began his campaign today for re-election
to the North Carolina Senate. The election will be held on November
7, 2006. Senator Snow had a very successful and productive short
session in which he voted and worked to:
• Raise teacher
salaries toward the national average and ensure that every
penny of lottery proceeds is spent on education • Cut the state
sales tax and taxes on almost 30,000 small businesses • Provide a tax
credit to help small businesses afford to provide better health
insurance for their employees. • Increase the
minimum wage to help approximately 140,000 working North Carolinians. • Strengthen the state’s
key job-creation initiatives and provide additional funding to
help businesses
locate and
expand in North Carolina. • Pass a responsible
budget that doubled the Rainy Day Fund in case of disasters or
an economic downturn. • Create a program
that requires repeat sex offenders to wear a Global Positions
System (GPS) bracelet
so they can
be tracked
at all times • Curb illegal immigration by tightening proof-of-identity
requirements for driver’s licenses and giving state and
local police the power to enforce immigration laws. • Give consumers
relief from rising fuel costs by capping the gas tax, offering
tax credits for alternative
energy products,
and toughening price-gouging laws to protect consumers against
unfair gasoline price increases. • Adopt tough
new ethics, lobbying, and campaign finance reforms that promote
good government and integrity
in public
service.
Senator Snow looks forward to returning to Raleigh to work to improve
the Western North Carolina Community. Please contact him if he
can be of any service to you during the interim period between
now and January.
